An angiographic complication of vertebral arteriovenous fistula.

چکیده
Complications of percutaneous angiography have been recorded and reported periodically throughout the literature (Abbott, Gay, and Goodall, 1952; Perese, Kite, Bedell, and Campbell, 1954). These complications range from something so minor as a transient Babinski response to immediate or eventual fatality. The following case is described so that an opportunity is afforded to visualize a vertebral arteriovenous fistula arising as a complication of percutaneous carotid angiography. Three cases have previously been recorded but all followed intended direct percutaneous vertebral angiography (Jamieson, 1965; Olson, Baker, and Svien, 1963; Sutton, 1962). Numerous other reports of vertebral arteriovenous fistula exist (Davis, 1960; Elkin and Harris, 1946; Heifetz, 1945; Matas, 1893). By far the majority are due to missile and stab wounds although there is one report (Svolos, Nomikos, and Tzouliadis, 1965) of a congenital lesion and an occasional instance of blunt trauma to the neck, with or without bony fracture, as being the aetiological agent (Elkin and Harris, 1946). Matas (1893), in a scholarly review of the literature up to 1893, also cites a case secondary to being gored by an ox and two cases associated with cervical tuberculosis.

Marginal sinus fistula supplied exclusively by vertebral artery feeders.
A 54-year-old woman is reported with severe pulsatile tinnitus. Digital subtraction angiography demonstrated dural arteriovenous fistula of the marginal sinus with feeders arising exclusively from bilateral vertebral arteries. Patient underwent successful transarterial Onyx embolization with complete angiographic and clinical cure.
متن کاملBilateral Carotid and Vertebral Rete Mirabile Presenting with a Prominent Anterior Spinal Artery Mimicking a Spinal Dural AV Fistula at MRI
Bilateral carotid and vertebral rete mirabile (CVRM) is a very rare condition. We report a new case of CVRM initially detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine. MRI demonstrated tortuous vascular signal voids limited to the anterior cerebrospinal fluid space mimicking spinal dural arteriovenous fistula. A diagnosis of CVRM was confirmed on the basis of angiographic find...

common autosomal-dominant genetic disorders with an incidence of approximately 1:3,500. Vascular abnormalities associated with NF-1 include stenotic or occlusive diseases, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and, rarely, arteriovenous fistula (AVF). Association of arteriovenous fistula with NF-1 is rare with a few cases of vertebral AVF having been reported (1-3). Endovascular occlusion of t...
متن کاملStent-Graft Treatment of Iatrogenic Vertebral Artery Pseudoaneurysm and Arteriovenous Fistula
Very rare incidence of vertebral artery pseudoaneurysm as a complication caused by central venous catheterization has been reported. The treatment strategy is dependent on location, anatomic structure and coexisting vascular injuries. The Stent-graft placement was performed in a 69-year-old woman who underwent Hemo-Cath® insertion for emergent hemodialysis complicated with right vertebral arter...
متن کاملVertebral arteriovenous fistula: an unusual complication of Swan-Ganz catheter insertion.
The leading causes of trauma to the major craniocerebral vessels include penetrating and non penetrating trauma [1 , 2]. Because the vertebral artery is confined to the incomplete bony canal formed by the successive foramina in the transverse processes of the upper cervical vertebrae, it is less susceptible to penetrating injury than is the carotid artery [2]. A review of the literature has unc...
